Harmony Batteries!

Has anyone ever accidently picked up a used battery from the charger, and didn't look at the led light to see how much battery life it had and went out without a spare one, thinking the battery is not gonna die on you till the end of the day? How do you all feel when the power cuts off on you during the day?

My cochlear implant battery has never ever died on me through the day, every morning I put on a fully charged battery and it would normally last me a whole day (roughly12 hrs) and if I stay up later, I don't normally replace it and just leave the implant on my head while the battery flat.

Today, for the first time since I have had my Cochlear Implant, the battery power actually went dead on me while at university. I accidently took the wrong battery and it wasn't fully charge.

When it went off, I actually thought there were something up with the processor. I was without my processor for the whole afternoon at university. I didn't bring a spare one with me and I couldn't see if it was just the battery. That afternoon, while I was at university, I had only a note-taker and because I could lip-read the lecturer I had. we had to work in groups and even though all my friends knew me very well that I do lip-read a lot. I did had to warn my friends that my cochlear implant has stopped working that they would need to tap me for my attention rather than calling my name out. Thanks to my lip-reading skill, I managed that afternoon really well. Not hearing through my processor that afternoon actually reminded me what it used to be like before my cochlear implant and how hard I had to concentrate. From now on.... I must check the led light before putting my processor on. I hate being without my cochlear implant now, it really does mean a lot to me and when I have it on I really do relaxs more.

Hey Katie, just came across your blog when I was searching for cochlear implants on the internet - it's really great, thanks for sharing your implant journey. My daughter is 11, and she will hopefully receive her second implant in the next few months, she's very excited about it! Sorry to read about your battery problem, it has happened to her a couple of times, even though we have spare batteries everywhere, it only seems to happen when we're out and don't have any with us!

Wow Katie, I know the feeling. You really do have to watch the LED especially as 4 flashes goes really quick. I sometimes have to double check that it isn't just 3 flashes or 4 flashes. Can I just say that after two years the batteries may not last as long. It is normal for that to happen as with any rechargeable batteries but my batteries have lasted more than two years and are still going strong as I thought the life expectancy on these 2 year old batteries would be shorter but blow me - it is just still going strong!

Congrats to being a BEA Mentor - I know that your stories is going to be a major inspiration for lots of people. Cool!

I had to recently wipe out my Windows Vista and re-install it with XP because it became too virus infested and completely failed. Now I am looking into how I can prevent these issues. I love to download fonts, but I don't exactly want to pay $20 for them. I used to use and I loved it, but now I've been looking at reviews and such to make sure. There's only good reviews, but I can't be sure those are legit. I know Yahoo! Answers isn't exactly the Library of Congress when it comes to this stuff but I would really appreciate a second opinion. **So what I'm asking is whether or not is virus free? Also, is virus safe as well? Thank you.** santoramaa

I have a Dell Latitude Laptop using Windows XP. I took it to Geek Squad because it was skipping and the freezing up when I played DVDs or any kind of audio. When it freezes I have to turn it off witut shutting it down. It also wouldn't freeze right freezes into about 10 minutes of playing DVDs or youtube videos. It was also making weird noises when it froze. Best Buy informed me that the noise wasn't any hardware issue, but the kind of noise the computer makes when it's frozen. They said nothing was wrong hardware wise, and that I had 6 viruses on the laptop. Well now, all those viruses are removed, and my laptop is still skipping and freezing when I play the point where I have to turn off the computer without shutting it down. If it's not viruses, and geek squad said everything is fine with the computer physically, then what is it? santoramaa

Well, lucky for you that nothing bad had happened. The next time, double check if you picked the right battery or not. Even though this can be a little thing for some people, but for people like you, it is very essential.
